Chiang Kai-Shek's Intellectual Resources During The War Of Resistance Against Japan

The study of Chiang Kai-Shek's thoughts is an essential step in our understanding of him.Based on the background of the War of Resistance Against Japan,this dissertation will focus on how Chiang Kai-Shek learned from Confucianism,Japanese Culture and Christianity when he was confronted with the two difficult problems of defending territory and constructing a new China.Chiang Kai-Shek,who was influenced by Confucianism,Japanese Culture as well as Christianity both in his private life and political opinions,had already learned a lot about these three kinds of intellectual resources well before the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan.During the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan,Chiang Kai-Shek himself had a great change in his age,mentality and political status,at the same time the domestic and international environment also changed dramatically.By comparing the changes of Chiang Kai-Shek's thoughts,this dissertation will try to probe the characteristics of Chiang Kai-Shek's understanding of these three kinds of intellectual resources during the War of Resistance Against Japan.At the same time,Chiang Kai-Shek's understanding of these three kinds of intellectual resources is closely related to the social trend in modern China.The worship of Revolution,Science,Doctrine and Force by the Chinese people in modern China urged Chiang Kai-Shek to focus on the characteristics of Revolution and Science when dealing with these three kinds of intellectual resources,and to bring them into the track of Revolution,Science,Doctrine and Martial Consciousness so that they could be more easily accepted by the people at that time,which was more and more obvious during the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan.However,it should also be taken into mind that the influence of these ideas on Chiang Kai-Shek is mainly on the field of personal life and political preaching.As for the specific political choice Chiang Kai-Shek made during the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan was largely determined by Chiang's power and interest.
