Oral English as one of the important skills that reflects the comprehensive ability of students' English has received more and more attention in China's ELT.The proposition of the POA provides us with a brand-new field of vision for oral English teaching research and provides one kind of new feasible teaching mentality for Chinese college English teaching.This study is the application of the teaching model based on POA in college oral English teaching,aiming to overcome the disadvantages of traditional oral English teaching and improve students' oral English expression ability and contribute to active attitudes towards learning oral English.According to the previous experimental studies,this study mainly answers the following two questions to testify the effectiveness of the application of teaching model based on POA in college oral English teaching: 1.What are the effects of POA-based oral English teaching on college students' oral English proficiency? 2.What are the changes of students' attitude toward oral English after the teaching based on the POA?The whole experimental process lasted for 16 weeks.Altogether 60 sophomore sophomores who major in Electrical Engineering and Automation from two parallel classes were selected in this study.They were randomly divided into two classes: one class is experimental class;the other class named control class.The subjects in experimental class were instructed with the new oral English teaching model based onthe POA,while subjects in control group received traditional oral English model.For the purpose of fulfilling the objective of present study,tests,questionnaires and interviews were conducted to both experimental class and the controlled class as well as the received experimental data were analyzed and discussed by the SPSS 17.0.The study presents that the teaching model based on POA has a positive impact on college students' oral English proficiency.From the perspective of the results of the post-test,the students in the control class have achieved greater progress compared with those in the parallel class.The teaching method based on POA has a significant influence on improving the students' oral English proficiency,especially in terms of the grammar and vocabulary,the use of language,and the interaction relations compare to traditional teaching methods.Students also registered a more positive change in their attitude towards learning English after the 16-month teaching experiment.Meanwhile,the difficulties and challenges encountered by teachers in the implementation process have been further clarified.Therefore,this study has certain theoretical and practical significance on the study of college oral English teaching and POA theoretical system.
