English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017)clearly points out that the specific goal of English curriculum in senior high school is to cultivate and develop students' English key competencies.Under this background,English teachers in senior high school should reflect the cultivation of English key competencies in their instructional design,and the formation and development of students' English key competencies should run through the whole process of English teaching.Unit integrity instructional design as one of the effective ways to cultivate students' English key competencies,comprehensively takes students' cognitive level and learning needs into account.The overall design of unit teaching is very conducive to the development of students' English key competencies.However,in practice,unit integrity teaching often can not be effectively implemented,resulting in the utilitarianism of teaching objectives,the fragmentation of teaching contents,the mechanization of teaching activities,and the simplification of teaching evaluation.All of these are not conducive to cultivating students' English key competencies.Therefore,it is necessary to study unit integrity instructional design based on English key competencies.This research takes English teachers and students of two classes(one is the control class,the other is the experimental class)in Grade one of a senior high school in Tianshui as research subjects.Questionnaire survey,interview and test are performed to investigate the current situation of unit integrity teaching in senior high school and the effect of unit integrity teaching on the cultivation of students' English key competencies.The results show that teachers' understanding of unit integrity teaching needs to be improved,unit integrity teaching has not been effectively carried out;and English teaching is separated from the cultivation of English key competencies.However,compared with the traditional teaching model,students prefer the unit integrity teaching.Based on that,this research puts forward the model of unit integrity instructional design based on English key competencies.An one-semester teaching experiment is conducted to investigate whether unit integrity teaching can improve students' English key competencies.In the teaching experiment,CC adopts the traditional instructional design and EC adopts unit integrity instructional design.After an one-semester teaching experiment,through thecomparison,it can be found that unit integrity teaching can improve students' English key competencies.Accordingly,this research puts forward the principles of unit integrity instructional design based on English key competencies including systematic principle,integrity principle,principle of subjectivity and situational principle;and puts forward the model of unit integrity instructional design based on English key competencies,which mainly includes analysis stage,design stage,implementation stage and evaluation stage.At the same time,taking a unit of English Compulsory Course Two of PEP(Unit1 Cultural Relics)as an example,this study serves a case for unit integrity instructional design based on English key competencies,providing some reference for English teachers in senior high schools to cultivate students' English key competencies in their teaching.
