English Curriculum Standard(2017)puts forward some new requirements for senior high school English teachers.It is necessary to develop students’ key competencies actively and improve the students’ comprehensive quality further.Instructional design is not only an essential link in teaching but also a prerequisite of teaching.Nevertheless,previous researches have illustrated quite a few problems in the instructional design of senior high school English teachers,and many teachers cannot integrate key competencies into instructional design adequately.So in order to improve the English teachers’ teaching quality,it is of great significance to study the current situation of senior high school English teachers’ instructional design,to find out the existing problems and to propose effective solutions.The research questions of this study are as follows: 1.What are the attitudes of the senior high school English teachers toward instructional design? 2.What are teachers’ ability in designing lessons? 3.What are ways of instructional design used by senior high school English teachers? 4.What are effects of instructional design of the senior high school English teachers? Questionnaires,interviews and text analysis are used as the method in this thesis.The questionnaire includes 40 questions and 118 senior high school English teachers were investigated in Yantai city,Shandong Province.A total of 115 of valid questionnaires were collected in the end.The questionnaire was collected by So Jump software and then the collected data was analyzed through SPSS22.0.A total of 115 of valid questionnaires were collected in the end.In addition,in order to make up for the deficiency of the questionnaire,the author interviewed five senior high school English teachers,and analyzed the corresponding ten instructional designs.The findings of this study are as follows: 1.About 60% teachers have a correct understanding and attitude to instructional design,but some teachers still fail to realize the importance of instructional design.2.The current level of instruction design competences of English teachers in senior high school is generally in the intermediate level,but there are differences in different contents.Teachers do well in evaluation,activities,and students analysis,but the ability to designing learning objectives is relatively weak.3.Teachers have a simplex approach of instructional design,and about 68% teachers adopt the approach of forward design.4.Most teachers can carry out teaching according to their instructional and achieve satisfactory results.Based on the research findings and existing problems,the author puts forward the following suggestions: 1.Teachers should correct their attitude towards instructional design and pay attention to the effect of instructional design.At the same time,teachers’ understanding of English key competencies should be deepened and the concept of key competencies should be integrated into instructional design.2.Teachers should study the theory of instructional design in depth and combine theory with practice.Under the guidance of theory,teachers should change the single mode of teaching design and try different ways according to the needs of teaching,especially the backward design.3.The learning objectives of instructional design should be changed from the cultivation of language knowledge to the cultivation of students’ key competencies.
