On April,20th,2018,the China's Standards of English?CSE for short?was officially released by the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission of China and then was implemented officially on June,1st the same year.As one part of the CSE,the descriptors of translation competence and strategic competence begin with the fifth level. In addition, the shortage of Chinese-English?C-E?talents makes Chinese culture“going out”still have a long way to go,which can be mainly solved by cultivating the translation competence of the learners majoring in English.Under this circumstance, this research,on the basis of the descriptors in the sixth and seventh levels of strategic competence in translation from the CSE,attempts to conduct a test and a questionnaire on the 66 senior students in their strategic competence in C-E translation and then compare the results from the questionnaire and the test by the approaches of qualitative analysis and quantitative statistics,so as to provide certain references for relevant members to draw up a reasonable learning and teaching plan.Through the survey, the thesis finds out the following situations of the students'strategic competences in translation:?1?In general, the subjects in this research have basically grasped the 11 translation strategies measured here.?2?The students still have vague recognition in applying some specific translation strategies,in spite of the general conformity of the results between the test and self-assessment.?3?Obviously,it's difficult for the subjects to practice what they preach, although they thought they had a general understanding of linguistic characteristics both in Chinese and in English, and developed good habits.?4?They tend to use literal translation in the strategies and items that reflect their relatively weak diffidence. This thesis indicates that the subjects still need to build up their self-assessment ability, especially by periodic self-checking in daily learning. At the same time, regular translation practice is also a necessity for them to further improve their capacity for employing the specific strategies.
