With the advent of the era of economic globalization, international exchanges and cooperation have become increasingly close.Today's society is in urgent need of talents with both solid English language foundation and intercultural communicative competence. However, for a long time,English teaching has focused on vocabulary, pronunciation, grammatical function and translation. Therefore, when students are really engaged in communication with foreigners, most of them cannot really understand others or express their own opinions. The New English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools clearly states that high school English courses must focus on developing students' cultural awareness. In addition,it is pointed out that students should be able to accurately understand others in a specific context and communicate with others properly to achieve the purpose of communication. In response to this situation, the thesis investigates the current English intercultural communicative competence of high school teachers and students.Through this research, the following questions are explored:(1)What is the English intercultural communicative competence of high school students?(2)Do high school English teachers focus on cultivating students' intercultural communicative competence in classroom teaching?(3)What is the intercultural communicative competence of high school English teachers themselves? These research questions aim to understand the current situation of intercultural communicative competence of high school teachers and students, explore the factors that affect the intercultural communicative competence of high school students, and analyze how high school English teachers can improve themselves to cultivate intercultural communicative competence of students effectively.Based on the research questions, questionnaires and test papers on intercultural communication have been conducted among 30 English teachers and 300 students of Zhangjiakou No.1 Senior High School, and in-depth interviews have been done with 10 students and 5 English teachers.According to the data obtained by the three research methods, the intercultural communicative competence of senior high school English teachers and students is objectively evaluated. The research results show that the overall attitude of current high school English teachers towards intercultural communication teaching is quite positive, and most teachers believe that it is necessary to cultivate intercultural communicative competence of students. Moreover, more attention is paid to intercultural phenomena in daily teaching. However, high school English teachers need to improve their own cultural literacy, especially the knowledge about intercultural communication.Intercultural communicative competence of high school students is relatively weak and need to be strengthened.Based on the understanding of the level of intercultural communication of English teachers and students in high schools, training strategies are proposed from the aspects of teachers and students.Firstly, teachers are expected to strive to improve their intercultural literacy and ensure the implementation of intercultural teaching, which includes learning the theory of intercultural communication and participating in intercultural training actively.Secondly, teachers should change traditional teaching concepts to stimulate students' interest in intercultural communication, which includes the strategies of teaching language and cultural knowledge, and the strategies of teaching language forms and the communicative functions of language.Thirdly, teachers must create an intercultural teaching environment for students.Fourthly, much more attention should be paid to cultural differences to cultivate intercultural communication awareness of students. These differences involve vocabulary, sentences and texts, eastern and western values, communicative behaviors between eastern and western languages, and non-verbal communicative behaviors between eastern and western cultures.Fifthly, teachers should encourage students to actively cooperate with them to cultivate intercultural communication awareness. Finally, the external environment of intercultural communication in high school English should be improved.
