As a significant product of the development of contemporary movie and television industry,science fiction movie and television works inevitably involve the social and political ideology issues when it comes to a discussion about its themes.The United States and Japan are both culture giants in the world which have produced many high-quality sci-fi movies and TVs in their respective development after World War II.However,due to the spectacularity and the fascinating pictures of these works,the hidden ideological aspects are often overlooked by the audience.This paper studies the ideological aspects of the sci-fi movies in the United States and Japan after the World War II,and focus on the visual effects of sci-fi movies in the two countries as well as the hidden political ideas and discourse metaphors in the narrations,from the perspectives of cultural criticism,analysis of works and theoretical research in ideologies.At the same time,with a reference to the theoretical knowledge of military history,science and technology history,this paper also ponders over the research in occurrence and influence of visual narrative in order to interpret the specific signs and evolution history of the ideologies in the sci-fi films and TVs in the post-war United States and Japan.The full paper is divided into three parts: the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.The introduction part puts forward the proposition,summarizes the research situation of sci-fi movies and their ideology in the post-war United States and Japan,clarifies the framework and theoretical coordinate where this paper sits with a reference to the previous research achievements,and finally discusses the difficulties and innovations in writing this paper.The main body of this paper mainly consists of four parts: “Ideology as a criticism method of sci-fi movie and TV”,“Comparison of the ideologies in the post-war United states and Japan sci-fi movie and TV”,“Analysis of the ideologies in the post-war United states and Japan sci-fi movie and TV” and “Ideological merge and evolution in the post-war United states and Japan sci-fi movie and TV”.The main body begins with the realistic creation basis of the post-war sci-fi movies and TVs of the two nations in a logically progressive structure,and goes further to make a detailed analysis of the two nations’ specific sci-fi works in regards to their respective ideology.Finally,based on the analysis,it tries to make relevant theoretical findings by merging the conclusion with the ideological development in the post-war movies of the two nations.By summarizing the three aspects of the two nations’ sci-fi movies and TVs in the post-war period: the conceptual basis,specific movie and TV works and their development histories,the final part of this paper draws a conclusion that there exist a mutual influence and gradual moving forward from being independent to cooperative in the ideological construction of the post-war sci-fi works in these two nations.With this paper,we would like to look to the future development of Chinese science fiction movies and,moreover,call on Chinese science fiction movie industry to pay attention to the construction of ideological highland in their works as soon as possible.
