Since Shanghai started the pilot cultivation mode of ?3+2? integration of secondary and higher vocational education in 2010,English has become the key subject of each secondary vocational school, with vocabulary teaching being the most important part of English teaching.Despite the emphasis laid on it,the effect of English vocabulary teaching is far from satisfactory. To date, there are few researches having investigated English vocabulary teaching with regard to the cultivation mode, and even less documented are studies on the application of the MI theory to English vocabulary teaching in vocational schools.Based on the MI theory, advocated by Howard Gardner, this paper aims to study whether the MI-based English vocabulary teaching can stimulate vocational school students' interest in vocabulary, and whether it can facilitate vocabulary acquisition. The author chose two parallel classes in one vocational school in Qing Pu,Shanghai. Before the experiment, the author conducted two questionnaires, each concerning vocabulary learning and students' interest in learning vocabulary in the experimental class, and a third questionnaire to assess the students' multiple intelligences to obtain the distributional data of their intelligence types. The students in the experimental class were given MI-based vocabulary teaching activities in various forms, where students could use their strong intelligence to promote the development of their weak intelligence, thereby improving the learning effect and the classroom efficiency, and stimulating the students' interest in learning.By analyzing the result of the experiment, the author concluded that MI-based English vocabulary teaching activities can stimulate the students' interest in English vocabulary learning and improve their vocabulary learning performance.
