Based on Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theory as a guide and combining with the teaching practice of Zhengzhou Institute of Technology, this article studied the students’ intelligence characteristics and the present status of higher vocational English teaching, from four aspects like teaching environment, teaching content, teaching means and teaching evaluation, and put forward the reform ideas and strategies of higher vocational English teaching. This article consists of four parts. The first part mainly summarizes the understanding of the theory of MI and analyzes the features of higher vocational students, the current situation and existing problems of higher vocational English teaching, which Mainly analyze problems from students, teachers and teaching: students’ previous knowledge is poor and less enthusiasm for English learning; Teachers do not have the clear cognition for vocational English teaching and misunderstands the teaching goals; The teaching has poor environment, old content, boring means, and unique evaluation. The second part analyzes the MI Theory opened up a new way of thinking for teaching environment reform. The author puts forward constructing the teaching rooms and campus culture, and using modern education technology to improve teaching environment and so on. The third part is using MI Theory to guide the teaching content reform, the author reforms some part of teaching:with students as the center, the teacher selects and processes the teaching material so that it makes teaching content more close to the student life,; Employment-oriented teaching contents cultivate the formation of students’ humanistic quality. The fourth part is that with the guidance of the theory of multiple intelligences, the teaching means are more flexible, the author summarized the group teaching through teaching practice:according to the aptitude, take the student as the center, and strengthen students’ learning, using a variety of teaching methods. Teacher use multimedia to improve students’ listening comprehension, such as the language lab and combined the multiple evaluation methods, actively carry out the second English class and so on.
