Report On The Translation Of African Cultural News

In recent years,Sino-African relations have been discussed with much interest by the world.With the progress of “The Belt and Road Initiative”,the cooperation between China and Africa is getting closer.African culture is an important part,both in academic research and international communication.Since July 2010,The Centre for African Studies of Peking University(PKUCAS)has been publishing PKU-African-Tele-info(weekly)to recommend and introduce relevant international news reports,mostly in English,on African culture,economy and politics to academia.In order to make contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and Africa,eleven pieces of English news were selected for translation in this translation practice,and all were soft news and originated from foreign media.Based on the Chinese translation of these news reports,this paper introduces African culture of music,dance,food and other aspects in Africa,discusses the key and difficult points in the process of translation and proposes solutions by making a detailed study of African culture,so as to transmit them to domestic readers.In this translation practice,through consulting relevant literatures at home and abroad,it is found that domestic researches on Africa are mostly confined to the political and economic field.There are few news reports on African culture,and domestic translators also pay little attention to it.This translation practice can not only deepen the understanding of African culture,but also make people realize the richness and inclusiveness of African culture.Based on the eleven selected news,this paper discusses the translation of African people's names,place names,book titles,culture-loaded words,lyrics and long sentences through literature review and example analysis,and expounds the thinking process and solutions.It aims to convey the current cultural and ideological trends in Africa to Chinese readers through the study of this series of news,make contribution to the exchange of sino-african culture and provide references for future related translation practice and researches.
