Family Of Classics And History: The Research On The Construction Of Local Power Monopoly Of Haode Ho Family In Jinjiang County In Ming And Qing Dynasties

The Fujian family organizations were rapidly developed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,especially in the southern part of Fujian Province.During this period,the government of Quanzhou was stationed in Jinjiang County,and many great families emerged because of the prosperous economy and culture.The Haode Ho family in Jinjiang county was one of them.Haode Ho family is a branch of Qingyuan Ho clan in southern Fujian.Its name came from the behavior of He'an Gong,the third ancestor,who bought a house at the right of Haode arch,Quanzhou.The academic atmosphere of the Haode Ho family was flourishing and many excellent talents appeared in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.It was very prosperous in the local area,and was a local family worthy of attention.This paper takes the Haode Ho family of Jinjiang County in Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object,discusses several issues such as the origin,development and construction of the family.On the basis of historical literature method,and with the assistance of sociological and anthropological research methods,this study makes a comprehensive and accurate study of the Haode Ho family.This paper collects the information of family tree through site research.Based on the collation and analysis of local prefecture and county chronicles,information of the family tree and writings of family members,this paper sorts out the origin and development of the Haode Ho family,explores the ways to construct the Haode Ho family's local power monopoly,mainly in four aspects: imperial examination,social circle,marriage and local construction,and analyses the classics and historical achievements of the Ho family.The study finds that “classics and history ” is the characteristic of the Haode Ho family.Ho family began to study historical classics from the third ancestor He'an Gong's period.He Jiong,the seventh ancestor,focused on Confucianism and made the family flourish.The Ho family's tradition of focusing on Confucianism and paying attention to historical classics was established.Afterwards,the people of the family took Confucianism as their career and achieved great success in the imperial examinations by practicing Confucianism.The Ho family changed from an ordinary family to a famous large local family.After becoming a biglocal family,the Ho family had been expanding its circle of social relationship and marriage to build and maintain its local power monopoly.Because of the classics and historical cultural traditions of the family,most of the friends made by the Ho family were literati,famous Confucians and officials,and the marriage objects of this family were mostly the great families who emphasize education,advocate literature,and focus on historical classics and imperial examinations.Influenced by the tradition of historical classics,and with great Confucian ideals,the Ho family actively devoted themselves to local construction and won a good reputation for the family.In addition,the Ho family concentrated on the classics and history has made many achievements in it,so they are the "family of classics and history”with a matching name and reality.
