Research On English Translation Of Chinese Traditional Music Names

Inheriting and carrying forward Chinese traditional culture and disseminating Chinese culture to the world are the mainstream thoughts in China.Chinese music culture,as a part of it,cannot be ignored.How to introduce the rich and colorful Chinese music culture to the world is the mission and responsibility of the academic circle.Music translation can effectively promote the external dissemination of Chinese traditional music,and it is an important step to translate Chinese traditional music names accurately.Therefore,This paper analyzed the relationship between Chinese traditional music and its names and the aesthetic characteristics of Chinese traditional music names,combined with the translation cases of names(the journals published by major music colleges,Chinese-English music reference books,foreign journal and book and English websites of music),and then analyzed the translation methods commonly used for Chinese traditional music names are transliteration,literal translation,free translation and interpretation.In combination with cases,the author concludes the advantages and disadvantages of the four methods and summarizes the cases.It is found that there is no standardized translation model at present,which is absolutely related to the music cultural difference between China and the west and whether the translation method is standard or not.After summarizing the existing solutions to the English translation of Chinese traditional music names,the author uses Eugene A.Nida's functional equivalence theory and Xu Yuanchong's "three beauties" theory as the theoretical basis,and according to the expression way of Chinese traditional music names,proposes two English translation suggestions for Chinese traditional music names,namely comparison method and flexible multiple variations method.It is hoped that whatever translation method is used,translators will firstly combine the advantages of functional equivalence theory and "three beauties" theory,give priority to the transmission of content,and at the same time,study the selection of form,text and other aspects,so as to make the translated name reasonable and exquisite.Through this study,the author proposes a reference translation model for Chinese traditional music names,but it is not absolutely standardized.The intention is to inspire more people's consciousness and put forward more effective methods and strategies to spread Chinese traditional music culture.
