From the birth of black neighborhoods in the United States to the global sweep,hip-hop culture has become a unique youth subculture phenomenon in contemporary society. For China,hip-hop culture,as an imported product, was once excluded from the mainstream system and kept in the wild growth of "underground" for a long time.In recent years, with the broadcast of variety shows such as "THE RAP OF CHINA" and "THE RAP OF CHINA ?",hip-hop culture has been presented in the discourse system of mass media, which has aroused wide attention.Hip-hop culture is facing a new turn of localization development.Based on the research results of the Birmingham school, this paper takes the subculture theory as the research framework to study and reflect on the localization development of Chinese hip-hop culture and the evolution of group identity. This study takes hip-hop culture and Chinese hip-hop subculture group as the research blueprint, and through the interview of hip-hop subculture group,we can understand how it realizes the construction of self-identity and the identification of group identity. In the post-modern context,in the interactive relationship between mainstream culture and hip-hop culture subcultu re,the formation, differentiation and reconstruction of subculture group identity are explained,so as to restore and clarify the process and motivation of its identity realization and transformation. There is no difference between hip-hop culture entering the mainstream stage and being "purged" by mass media into an art form that is"just a facade".In the post-modern context, the group boundary of hip-hop fans has gradually become blurred, and the group often falls into the anxiety of their own identity and group identity. From "Chinese hip-hop" to "Chinese rap",the core and form of hip-hop culture are stripped away, resulting in the absence of critical and reflective hip-hop culture in the mainstream discourse. With the participation of mass media and consumer industry,hip-hop culture and mainstream culture have formed a complex interactive relationship, and the existing identity within the group has been impacted, showing the characteristics of identity diversity and group differentiation.
