In recent years,core competencies have become one of the hotly discussed issues of the education reform in the world.Many countries and regions have devoted themselves to constructing core competencies models to promote education reform and improve the quality of talent-training.With reference to the experience of international education reform,Chinese education team has put forward the core competencies for the development of Chinese students and the core competencies of each subject based on the specific situation of basic education reform.The concept of core competencies of English subject has been put forward in The High School English Curriculum Standards(2017),including language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.However,there is still a lack of empirical research on how to effectively realize the cultivation of the core competencies of English subject.Especially,English teaching is still under the influence of traditional teaching for the College Entrance Examination,and the practical cultivation of the core competencies of English subject is worrying.Based on the core competencies of English subject and the theoretical basis of project-based learning,this paper aims at carrying out a research on the application of project-based learning to English reading teaching in senior high school,and explores how to effectively organize the teaching,so as to realize the cultivation of students' core competencies of English subject.The author has done the teaching research in Qinhuangdao qinglong no.1 middle school for three months.The study subjects were 124 students from class 15 which is control class and class 16 which is experimental class of Grade one.The experimental class adopts the project-based learning,while the control class adopts the traditional teaching method.Through experiments,the following problems are intended to be studied:1.How about the feasibility and effectiveness of project-based learning on cultivating students' core competencies of English subject in English reading teaching in senior high school?2.How does the application of project-based learning in Senior English reading teaching inspire,guide and provide feasible suggestions for cultivating students' core competencies of English subject?In order to solve the above problems,quantitative analysis was adopted in this study.Before the experiment,by doing a questionnaire,learn about the English study of the two classes.And the two classes were tested before and after the experiments at the same time.The interval between the two tests was three months.Based on the reliability and stability of the data,the test papers are at the same level on the test type and the similarity of difficulty.After collecting the data of two tests,SPSS21.0 was used for systematic analysis.The research results are as follows: the application of project-based learning to English reading teaching in senior high school is feasible,and can effectively promote students' reading level.More importantly,it is proved that the project-based learning is helpful to cultivate students' core competencies of English subject.Finally,it is the inspiration that the research brings to the author from four aspects:In terms of the cultivation of language ability,teachers are required to change the teaching method of language points to stimulate the interest of students,and combine diversified reading practice tasks with listening,speaking,reading,writing and watching.In terms of the cultivation of cultural awareness,teachers should timely provide students with cultural background knowledge,guide students to correctly understand cultural differences,and guide students to cultivate cultural awareness in practice and exploration.In terms of the cultivation of thinking quality,teachers should fully interpret and dig the reading materials to deepen students' thinking step by step.In addition,they should also enable students to activate their thinking to exercise their logical,critical and innovative thinking qualities in a series of activities during the implementation,presentation and evaluation of group projects.In terms of the cultivation of learning ability,teachers should encourage students to change their learning methods,enhance their ability of independent learning,and strengthen strategic guidance in reading teaching,so as to comprehensively improve students' learning ability.It is hoped that the inspiration and suggestions obtained in this research can have significance for future research.At the same time,due to the limit of time and ability of the author,the deficiencies in this research still need to be constantly improved,and different teaching methods should be tried to promote the cultivation of core competencies of English subject in the future research.
