Textbooks play important roles in teaching. They are the guiding materials for students to acquire systematic knowledge, and the basis for teachers to conduct teaching. In recent years, there exist numerous researches on interpretation materials, which almost involve all aspects. However,it is noticed that few scholars have analyzed the interpretation materials'cultivation of students'pragmatic competence from the perspective of pragmatics.Interpretation itself is a communicative activity,in which the pragmatic competence plays a vital role.It is a pity that scholars rarely research or study in this aspect. If students are lack of pragmatic competence, especially when acting as the bridges in cross-cultural communication,it will inevitably have a negative impact on their interpretation quality, and even cause serious consequences. Therefore, this thesis will use Bachman's Communicative Language Competence Theory, along with other main pragmatic theories,to explore the importance of cultivating pragmatic competence in interpretation teaching, and to explore the situation and problems of training students'pragmatic competence in interpretation materials from the perspective of pragmatics. This thesis analyzes the nineteen interpretation materials of textbooks of the 11~th and 12~th Five-year National Textbooks Plan Projects, and explores the training of the Cooperative Principle, the Politeness Principles, and the Cross-cultural Pragmatics. It is found that nearly half of the textbooks have used one or two chapters for the Cross-cultural Pragmatic Competence, while other pragmatic abilities are not specifically explained;one-third of the textbooks have set up“interpretation commentary”and“note”sections,in which interpretation references are explained one sentence after another.Their interpretation methods adopted accord with the above-mentioned pragmatic principles so that they develop students'pragmatic ability subtly. However, some other textbooks only give interpretation references without any notes, which may let students ignore the pragmatic issues. In this case, the thesis puts forward some suggestions. It is suggested that textbooks use a certain amount of pages to explain pragmatics knowledge,so that students can have relevant awareness, and can pay attention to the appropriateness of pragmatics in interpretation. At the same time,it is suggested that in the“interpretation commentary”or“Note”sections, explanations of pragmatics knowledge is added,so that students not only have excellent interpreting skills, but also have the right and appropriate communicative skills.
