A Report On The Translation Of The “Contract Of Onshore Gas And Well Testing Services In Block X,Thailand”

With the vigorous development of China's economy,sino-foreign cooperation in international projects is more frequent.In international project,awarding the contract is the first and most important step for sino-foreign cooperation.Contracts provide legal protection for lawful right and interests of both parties to the contract.The contract plays an important role in sino-foreign cooperation,so the demand for the translation of contracts is increasing.Meanwhile,the translation of contracts has also contributed to the development of global integration.Under the guidance of functionalist translation theory,the translation is based on the Skopos rule,coherence rule,fidelity rule and loyalty rule.The research summarizes and analyzes the specific problems encountered in the translation at the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.In order to cope with some translation difficulties,such as archaic words,modal verbs,terminologies,inconspicuous subject sentences and passive voiced sentence,various translation techniques are adopted.This report is composed of five chapters.The first chapter serves as a general introduction,including the background,the objects as well as the structure of this report.The second chapter introduces functionalist translation theory,and theoretical framework and the principles that should be observed in the process of translation.It also studies the contractual translation under the guidance of the functionalist translation theory.The third chapter illustrates the process of the translation practice,including the pre-translation preparation,while-translation and post-translation quality control.The fourth chapter is the case studies under the guidance of functionalist translation theory and some translation techniques are also proposed.The fifth chapter expounds the major findings and the limitations of this report,as well as some suggestions for further study.
