Translation Practice Report On The Product Sale, Maintenance And Labour Contract Of Elevator Company

In recent years, China's economy has been developing rapidly with increasing international business activities. As the significant legal basis that promotes trade cooperation and protects mutual rights and interests, business contract has attached great importance to a company's international trade activities. The translation of related contract text proves to be practical and contemporary.This is a translation practice report based on the Product Sale, Maintenance and Labour Contract of Elevator Company, from Chinese into English. This report described a translation task entrusted by Chengxing Rhine Elevator Co., LTD.The purpose of this translation task is mainly to explore the translation strategies and techniques of business contract translation. Through this translation task, the author expected to accumulate more translation experience in terms of business contract texts and constantly improve personal translation capability. Based on the analysis of the whole translation text content and the overall structure, this practical report applied the German functionalist translation theory and combined the characteristics of business contract text. The report also discussed the key points, difficulties and error-prone points existing in the translation, such as English archaic words, modal verbs, conditional sentences and complex sentences translation. By the methods above, the rights and obligations are clarified. The function and objective of economic interests and the rights of both sides in the contract are realized. The coherence and readability of text are enhanced.This report is divided into four chapters: Translation Task Description, Translation Process Description, Translation Case Studies and Translation Practice Conclusion. Based on the analysis of the background of the translation task, the translation context and the process, this report mainly analyzed the case from two aspects features as vocabulary and sentence in the contract text as well as explained the translation methods and techniques. It is an example for combination of translation theory with practice together. The last chapter is the conclusion of this report. The author has drawn on experience and limitation in translation process, which is expected to provide reference for the translation practice in the future and for translators in related industries.
