"If a country does not have documentaries,it is like a family without photo albums.”Xinjiang-themed documentaries are the albums of Xinjiang ethnic groups.Xinjiang is the only place where the four major civilizations converge in the world.It has rich natural and human resources.It is not only realistic,but also image reproduction.It has been concerned and narrated by Chinese and foreign documentary creators.In this process,social audiences gradually acquired various kinds of information about Xinjiang from the recorded images,and formed a specific,indirect,floating and changing regional image of Xinjiang.The regional image of Xinjiang refers to the general impression left by the vast area of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China,including the public's overall impression and evaluation of the historical evolution of the region,the scenery of mountains and rivers,social construction and the people living on this land.A good regional image is the intangible assets of a region and can be transformed into tangible wealth.The construction of regional image of Xinjiang is not only a display of national image,but also an important part of the image-building of China.It has been forty-six years since the birth of the first Xinjiang-themed documentary "Prosperous Boltala Grassland" in New China in 1973.Over the past half century,the creators of documentaries of various nationalities at home and abroad have contributed countless classical works of Xinjiang theme to us,playing an important role in spreading minority culture and promoting national unity.Based on the reality of China's unified multi-ethnic society,this paper divides the historical evolution of Xinjiang documentaries into four stages according to the background of the times and the practical experience of documentary creation,taking Xinjiang minority areas as the image performance interval in the past half century,and taking Xinjiang minority as the main role,and taking documentaries and documentary films as the research object.The method of text analysis systematically shows the development of Xinjiang theme documentaries in different stages,and combs in detail what kind of Xinjiang regional image Xinjiang theme documentaries present in different stages from the political,economic and cultural perspectives.The first part of this paper is the introduction,which mainly clarifies the source of the topic,the purpose and significance of the research,as well as the research status at home and abroad.The second part includes the first to fifth chapters.-The first chapter analyses the first stage of Xinjiang theme documentaries from 1973 to the beginning of 1990.Firstly,it introduces the historical evolution of Xinjiang theme documentaries during this period,and combs the general situation of documentary works.These works in the initial stage fully show the development of Xinjiang in this period,which has important historical value and documentary value.But unfortunately,due to the limitations of time and conditions,most of these images,which were born in the 1970s and 1980s,have not been preserved.Today,only one Silk Road co-produced by CCTV and Japan's NHK TV can be seen.Therefore,next,the author takes the eight episodes of "Silk Road" concerning Xinjiang as the research object,and makes a concrete analysis of the image of Xinjiang.The second chapter analyses the exploration and development of Xinjiang documentaries during the period of social transformation from 1991 to 1999.Firstly,it introduces the general situation of the development of Xinjiang documentaries in the period of social transformation at the end of the 20th century.This period is the time when Xinjiang anthropological documentaries came into being.The daily life of civilians and ordinary people has become the theme of documentary creation.Then,the article makes a concrete study of the classical works in Xinjiang documentaries during this period.The research shows that during this period,the political and economic images in the documentaries were weakened.On the contrary,a"de-amorous"national image was constantly emphasized and constructed.The third chapter analyses the Xinjiang documentary which entered the period of stable development from 2000 to 2004.Firstly,it introduces the steady development of documentary creation in Xinjiang after entering the new century.The documentary of Xinjiang in this period inherits the theme of paying attention to the common people of ethnic minorities and their various lifestyles in the 1990s.At the same time,due to the complex international political situation,all ethnic groups in China are enlarged.The theme of unity and safeguarding the unity of national territory and sovereignty is also very important.Then,based on the representative works of image texts in this period,the paper explores and analyses the construction and dissemination of Xinjiang regional image in documentary texts.Chapter four analyses the contemporary Xinjiang documentaries in the period of high-quality creation from 2005 to now.During this period,Xinjiang documentaries have achieved great-leap-forward development.They not only have high-yield and high-quality "double-high" high-quality products,but also develop in an all-round way through cooperation in various fields worldwide,and gradually enter into internationalization.The regional image of Xinjiang presented in the documentaries during this period is also the most comprehensive in all stages,including political image,economic image,cultural image,educational image,social image,ecological environment image and so on.The article then elaborates on these images in detail.The fifth chapter summarizes the changes of regional image of Xinjiang in Xinjiang documentaries in the past half century,and points out the problems existing in the dissemination of Xinjiang regional image in documentaries.At the same time,according to these problems,the corresponding improvement measures are put forward in order to promote the construction of Xinjiang regional image and the development of Xinjiang documentary industry.In the last part of the conclusion,the article gives a final summary of the previous content.
