In the past 30 years,more and more slow cinemas have been shown at the international film festivals.The directors from all over the world choose the style of slow cinema coincidentally,which arouse our attention that whether this is an accident or a new trend of the development in art film.The concept of slow cinema was first proposed in 2008.Since 2010,the discussion and research on slow cinema have been spread from the UK.Slow cinema possesses a set of distinct characteristic: plenty of long shots;undramatic form of narration;depiction of stillness and everydayness and minimalist aesthetics.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter focuses on the analysis and discussion of the slow cinema,include the definition,history and classification.The second,third and fourth chapters analyze the films of Apichatpong Weerasethakul respectively from the perspectives of image,sound and narration as an example.This paper tries to summarize the aesthetic characteristics of slow cinema through the aesthetic of Apichatpong's films.As the continuation of modern film in the contemporary era,slow cinema is essentially a kind of art film that highlights film space and emphasizes audience perception.Slow cinema is gradually realizing the transformation from time-image to space-image,which corresponds to the spatialization of the present film art.
