With the development of economy,technology and culture,people communicate in more and more diverse ways.They communicate not only through languages,but also through gestures,eyes,images,animations,movements and other modes.In that case,people not only need to read single-modal discourse,but also need to learn to read multimodal discourse.Therefore,it is necessary to develop students' multiliteracies in reading teaching so that students can adapt to the requirements of the times.In addition,from The English Curriculum Standards for Junior High School(2011),it can be seen that it requires teachers to apply multiple modes in teaching,lead students to discover the roles of different modes,enhance students' interest in learning English and improve their attitudes toward English learning.However,in today's English reading classes,many teachers still use traditional teaching methods.The results are that students' reading attitudes are not positive and the effects of English reading are not good.Therefore,it is quite necessary to find an effective teaching model to solve this problem.In this research,the researcher applies multiliteracies development model to junior high school English reading teaching.The purpose of this research is to explore whether multiliteracies development model can improve junior high school students' reading attitudes and reading achievements.The experimental method was used in this study.The subjects were 53 junior high school students of Grade 7 in Hebei,of whom 27 students were in the experimental class and 26 students were in the control class.The experiment lasted nearly five months.At the end of the experiment,the researcher combined quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods to analyze and compare separately the English reading attitudes of the experimental class and the control class before and after the experiment.In addition,the researcher used quantitative data analysis method to compare separately the English reading achievements of the two classes before and after the experiment.The research tools included questionnaires,interview and test paper.The results show that multiliteracies development model can improve junior high school students' reading attitudes and reading achievements.This study proves the validity of multiliteracies development model and conforms to the requirements of The English Curriculum Standards for Junior High School(2011).Therefore,in English reading classes of junior high school,teachers should let students discover the roles of different modes in the passage,and use appropriate modes to present information.
