| Trade increasingly expands between China and Australia,so do trade frictions and legal cases.Therefore,there is a great demand for legal translation.As China mainly invests in mining to Australia,there is no Chinese version of Mining Act 1978 Western Australia yet.Therefore,the author decides to translate Mining Act 1978 Western Australia.Study of the legal translation shows great significance in providing practical guidance for legal texts.The source text of this report is Division 1 and 2 of Part IV of the act.Based on the author’s E-C translation of prospecting licence and exploration licence,this report aims to study cases under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory and legal translation principles.The report is divided into four parts: the task description,the process description,the case study and conclusion.Chapter One includes reasons of selecting the source text and the nature of the source text.Chapter Two contains preparation,translation process and translation proofreading.Chapter Three analyzes archaisms,legal terms and modal verbs at the lexical level;conditional sentences,parallel sentences and passive sentences at the syntactic level and cohesion and consistency at the textual level through cases.Chapter Four is the conclusion including main findings and the inspiration and provoking for future translation work.Through this translation practice,the author hopes that this report could be constructive to legal translators. |
