Literature translation is a cross-language and cross-cultural reproduction of literary works.Since the anticipation and reception of target readers are the key factors in literature creation, the acceptability of translation works is also a significant issue in literature translation. As a crucial concept in Reception Theory,"horizon of expectation" refers to reader's aesthetic expectation formed with his/her knowledge and experience, which stresses that the review of literary works should center on the reception of readers, and take readers' reception and features into consideration.Similarly, the acceptability of translation works is also an important indicator in reviewing translation works. Therefore,Reception Theory provides a valuable perspective in translation practices. From the view of the "horizon of expectation" in Reception Theory, translator should fully consider target readers' thinking mode and aesthetic anticipation,so as to produce a translation work with ideal acceptability while being faithful to the source text.In this thesis, the author brings together the concept of "horizon of expectation"and the translation activity of The Train to Impossible Places—a children's fantasy novel, with specific examples as grounds, concluding the translation strategies of this kind of texts from three levels:lexical, syntactical and contextual. To meet the aesthetic anticipation of the target readers of children's fantasy novel,on the lexical level, translators shall use vivid words and colloquial language, while taking the rhyme of words into consideration;on the syntactical level, translators should use shorter verses,so as to make the text follow the logic of the target language;and on the contextual level, translator should strive to reproduce the style of the source text.
