Exploration On The Prosperity Of Quanzhou Port In Yuan Dynasty And Its Causes

Quanzhou port rose in the Late Tang and the Five dynasties,the first foreign literature to record the port of Quanzhou was Book of Routes and Province.Its author is Ibn Khurdzibah,a Arab geographer in the 9th century.In this book,he portrayed Quanzhou Ports as China’s four major foreign trade ports.Another three ports are Guanzhou、Yangzhou、Jiaozhou(Yantai).The development and management of Wang Yanbin and Liu Congxiao had laid a solid material foundation for Quanzhou port during the Five Dynasties.Between Song and Yuan dynasty?the chief executive of Shibo department Pu Shougeng surrendered to Yuan.So the development of Quanzhou Port were not interrupted by war and reached its peak of perfection in Yuan.Quanzhou port known as the "Biggest Port in East" in Yuan dynasty.The object of study of this article is the prosperity of Quanzhou Port and its causes.lt mainly discusses the prosperity of Quanzhou port in Yuan dynasty from two aspects:countries and regions with trade relations with Quanzhou port in Yuan dynasty、the foreign trade commodities of Quanzhou port in Yuan dynasty.Finally,making the evaluation to Quanzhou Port’s status in Yuan dynasty.There’s been a lot of research about the reason of the Quanzhou port thrived in Yuan dynasty.In previous studies,it is usually discussed in Song dynasty or Song and Yuan dynasty.But this article focuses on Yuan dynasty,it focuses more on exploring the uniqueness of Quanzhou port in yuan dynasty.In this paper,the reason for Quanzhou port reached its peak in yuan dynasty is summed up as five reasons:The unified background of the Yuan dynasty provided an opportunity for commercial exchanges;The prosperity of Fujian commodity production in Yuan dynasty;The Yuan government’s openness to business activities;Navigation technology and maritime traffic developed in Yuan dynasty and the geographical factors of Quanzhou port itself.
