Functionalist Approach To C-E Cultural Relics Translation

This thesis focuses on making a research about the Chinese and English cultural relic texts in the Inner Mongolia museum,which is a subject with local cultural characteristics.Starting from the Chinese and English texts,the thesis discusses the characteristics of the cultural relic texts,mainly including the flowery language of Chinese text and the concise and plain of English text.There are more long sentences in Chinese text,while more simple sentences in English text and so on.Based on these characteristics,the author makes a careful analysis of some problems that may be involved in C-E translation of cultural relic texts and explores ways to solve these problems,such as the selection of translation strategies,translation principles of the cultural relic text material,and the development of translation standards.The research significance of this paper is to further study the text translation of cultural relics in the Inner Mongolian museum with Inner Mongolian characteristics.With the proper and improper translation found,it intends to improve the cultural relic texts translation.In order to ensure the effectiveness of the research,the paper adopts the quantitative and qualitative research method.Firstly,starting from the text typology,different text type determines different expected purpose of translation,which requires the translator to clarify the purpose of translation.Then,under the guidance of the shopos theory,the aim is to solve the problems such as inappropriate translation and cultural omission in the translation process.Skopos believe that,due to the differences between language and culture,the translation cannot be consistent with the original text in all aspects.The translation should be oriented towards the target language culture,and the adequacy of the translation and the possibility of realization should be decided by it.Therefore,the author of the thesis hopes to be able to take the full advantage of the argumentation and thinking in this paper so that the final research results can be used for reference by the Chinese translators in the museum.From the perspective of spreading Chineseculture and realizing the expected function of discourse,the readers' needs and cognitive abilities are fully considered.Moreover,it is hoped that the translator should grasp the linguistic and cultural differences between the original text and the translation,and should not blindly pursue formal equivalence.Translation brief demands that the translator choose appropriate translation strategies for the purpose of translation.In the case analysis,some translation problems in translation activities,such as cultural vocabulary,Chinese and English equivalents,etc.,have been selected.Finally,the author of the thesis provides some effective translation strategies,,hoping to help the translator and promote the country translation quality of cultural relics text in museums.
