Politeness, which plays an important part in interpersonal relationship,is always thought to be involved in people's daily life and communication in particular.Similarly,in English class,a special place for interaction, the interaction between teachers and students also needs politeness to maintain their relationship. This research, taking the politeness principles proposed by Leech and Levinson as theoretical foundation and employing survey and classroom observation analysis as research methods, contrastively analyzes the use of politeness principles in English classroom teaching between novice and experienced teachers. From the research result,we can conclude that, for all the novice and experience teachers,command-based instruction strategy takes up a more important part than the use of relatively polite guidance-based instruction strategy, and that both the novice and experienced teachers tend to use statement-based or command-based instructional expressions to implement the polite principles. However, novice teachers mainly use direct and command instructions or sentences and their instructions are not various and rich enough. On the other hand, experienced teachers pay more attention to the language politeness, and their teaching styles are more confident, decent and moderate. The study shows that the proper use of politeness principles is conducive to teachers and students to build a harmonious class,to narrow the distance between teachers and students and to promote the effectiveness of teaching and learning to a certain extent.
