As one of the three basic elements of language,vocabulary is particularly important when learning English.Nowadays,many middle school students are facing the following problems in vocabulary learning: boring vocabulary teaching,fast forgetting after recitation,inefficiency in vocabulary learning,and lack of positive attitude and so on.Along with the enlargement of the enrollment scale of colleges and universities,more and more students studying in the arts and sports have chosen to obtain arts and sports majors in colleges and universities.Sports and art special students in high school,that is,students who apply for art and sports majors in higher education institutions,and need to participate in professional course examinations or sports students selection.Those students need to spend more time studying specialized courses,which leads them not to have enough time to study other cultural courses.To learn English well,we need a lot of lexical resources and more and more practice.Due to the different learning characteristics of those students and the distribution of learning time,their English ability is always much weaker than the others and also unfortunately,they don't obtain a good method for learning English language.Therefore,it is imperative for teachers to seek a scientific and effective teaching method to improve students' vocabulary learning ability.Cooperative learning is an effective way to cultivate students' language skills,promote communication between students and mobilize the interest and enthusiasm of students in learning English.Vocabulary is also the most important part of learning a language.Therefore,the combination of high school English vocabulary teaching and cooperative learning theory is of great significance for English teaching and learning.This study is based on the theory of social interdependence theory,motivation theory,and cognitive refinement theory;it aims to explore the application of cooperative learning theory in the English learning of high school students and the impact of vocabulary teaching.Based on the research purpose,the study uses a high school in Harbin as an example,taking the two art classes as the research object.The whole process of data collection mainly uses curriculum teaching,classroom testing,and student survey questionnaire methods,and SPSS23.0 statistical software for the corresponding statistical analysis of the results of the questionnaire.Through the analysis of relevant data of this paper,it is found that through the application of cooperative learning theory,that 87% of the students quickly memorize the words;and 84.4% of students think that cooperative learning can improve the efficiency of vocabulary learning and help them use the vocabulary frequently.This thesis mainly reveals the application of cooperative learning theory in high school art students' English vocabulary teaching,and puts forward some teaching suggestions and inspirations for the relevant current situation: In practical high school English classroom teaching,cooperative learning theory helps to improve students' learning enthusiasm;in the process of practice,teachers should encourage students to speak and use new vocabulary actively;recognize and then praise the students' progress,which will help the them to improve their learning efficiency and enthusiasm;cooperative learning theory will help to promote the interpersonal communication of art students;teachers should actively promote interaction between students,create a good learning atmosphere through mutual learning and discussion,and cultivate good vocabulary learning habits.
