The "New Documentary" photography exhibition held by the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1967 is of great significance in the development of documentary photography. The "new documentary" will turn the documentary as a whole to the end of "personalization." This generation of photographers regard life as the source of all values.Through personalized viewing, they use their seemingly uncharacteristic snapshots to freeze daily life segments to retell their feelings and instant experiences.A new documentary style has been established. The variety of themes and image representations of the new documentary photography is diverse, and many of the works seem to be casual, but they are ironic. The concept of new documentary photography is not yet clearly defined. The purpose of this paper is to sort out the historical context of new documentary photographers at home and abroad, analyze the works of new documentary photographers at home and abroad, and summarize the characteristics and classification of new documentary photography. At the same time, through the interpretation of the objective situation,in order to better apply to the practice of photography creation. The practical shooting and interpretation of the graduation creation “on the road” has deepened the understanding of the new documentary photography.
