This paper tries to analyze the forms of expression and artistic value of symbolization in commercial photography,and clarify the characteristics and value of symbolic language application in commercial photography,in order to provide some new ideas for commercial photographers and help the viewers of photographic works to appreciate the works of art.The main content of this paper is divided into the following five parts: Firstly,it briefly expounds the development process and characteristics of commercial photography and the basic theory of semiotics.The second part analyze the relationship between photography and symbols from the perspective of semiotics,studies the symbolization and transmission of photographic images with the principles of semiotics,and illustrates that the essence of the transmission of photographic works is the transmission of symbols with the photographic work "Big Eyes".The text meaning of symbols in photographic works is analyzed from two perspectives of "decoding" and "encoding",and the symbolic semantics produced in the process of photographic works dissemination is analyzed with the case of Yoshihiko Ueda.In the third part,four common symbolic metaphors in photographic works are used to analyze the manifestations of photographic symbols from the perspective of image rhetoric combined with typical photographic works."Re-shooting classics" is a clever design of shooting subject;"snapping moment" is a shooting skill to grasp the meaning of the instantaneous picture;"swing scene" is a way of expressing the intention of the photographer by designing the content of the shooting;"synthetic artistic conception" refers to the work formed by digital post-production mode.Two points for attention in the use of symbolization techniques in commercial photography are proposed.The fourth part,through comparative study of symbolic expressions in the photographic works of Annie Leibovitz and Chen Man,the paper gives a clearer understanding of the value and significance of “semiotic thinking” to photographers.Finally,the application of symbolic expression in photography is analyzed in combination with the commercial fashion photography works taken by me,which reflects the practical value of the research results.Nowadays,with the close relationship between commercial photography and art.Symbolization,as a unique and innovative artistic expression technique in commercial photography,is an artistic creation technique that deserves affirmation and attention.
