The Tathagata Dream

The Erhu work,"The Eighth Piece of Tathagata Dream—Tathāgatagarbha" was created by Mr.Liu Wenjin in 1997.As the last piece in the song cycle of Tathagata Dream,this work was composed on the basis of the novel Pao Xiu Luo Lan written by Mr.Yu Xi,which was a combination of poetry and prose.The composer,Mr.Liu Wenjin,integrates Buddhist elements into the work.This work expresses the Buddhist story in the novel through music.It is not only an extraordinary piece of Erhu music works in recent years,but also a masterpiece created for inheriting and promoting the traditional national music culture.The purpose of thesis is to analyze,by means of the work and the author’s own feeling got by performing Erhu,the Buddhist elements and evolution of thematic artistic conception about Tathāgatagarbha so as to explore the uniqueness and foresight of Buddhist elements to the creation and performance of the Erhu in modern times.
