Jiang Wenye,a Taiwanese,Japanese and a Chinese,is a legendary figure as well as a controversial composer.He integrates the identity of scholar,poet,and composer,and is the first Chinese composer winning a world class musical competition.His bumpy and variable life experience is bound to make his life an extraordinary one.He makes people admire him for his prolificacy,his broad range of musical forms,and his achievements of winning over 10 international awards with his works.Meanwhile,he wrote a large number of articles on musical theory and treaties on music,which is quite rare in the musical history of modern China.The Peiping Period is the key era of Jiang Wenye's musical production,as well as the period when his musical style changed.This stage embodies how he transformed from a Taiwan composer of Japan to a Taiwan composer of China.During this period,he created a lot of piano works: Beijing Wanhua Ji,Sonatina,Sonata No.3-The Beautiful Scenery of Jiangnan”-,Sonata No.4-the Carnival,A Poem of Local Customs and Conditions of China,etc.During his music creation period in Peiping,these 5 pianos works were his focus and reflected the developmental process of his musical style.Via organizing the background of Peiping Period,this thesis attempts to restore the historical background of the era of Jiang Yeping and his genuine encounter and discuss the impacts of his life transition on his work and ideology.By analyzing the musical noumenon of his 5 piano works,this thesis looks for the similarities,differences and connections between these 5 works from multiple perspectives—national music,modern music skills,etc,and presents the transition process of his musical ideas and his status in the musical circle of Peiping Period.Meanwhile,via interpreting his musical theory treaties and extracting & purifying his statements of music in these treaties,this thesis reflects his mental musical world.The initial purpose of establishing the argument in the thesis is to perfect the statements on the musical style and features of Jiang Wenye during Peiping Period,and show his pursuit of piano nationalization and achievements in musical theories via analyzing and interpreting the piano works and musical theory treaties of Jiang Wenye during Peiping Period,so that there will no longer be a lack of research on Jiang Wenye in the research of China's modern musical history.
