Chang Ping is a doctor of composition trained in China. He studied under professor Tang Jianping and now teaches in the composition department of central music college. He is one of the active young composers in the contemporary music world. This paper takes Chang Ping's erhu concerto Tian Xiang as the research object. The first chapter is the cultural attribute of "Tian Xiang",which mainly expounds the core creation intention of Chang Ping with Chinese culture as the main body and western symphony as the carrier. The second chapter is structural analysis, which analyzes the overall structure and secondary structure of Tian Xiang, and explores how it controls the single-movement instrumental concerto works of such a length in its internal structure. The third chapter is about the organization of pitch materials. It discusses the author's strict vertical and horizontal organization of pitch materials, and his overall grasp of the unity of the works' music vocabulary. The fourth chapter is about the characteristics of the orchestration of "Tian Xiang",exploring how the orchestration in the work combines the western orchestra and the erhu organically. The erhu concerto "Tian Xiang" is one of the most outstanding works in the contemporary folk music concerto for bowstring instruments. The author explores the technique and consciousness of creation from an objective Angle.
