Biography is another form of history.We can be inspired by reading a biography to understand a person's life,thoughts,and the age in which he lives.This report is based on my translation of James Legge's Notes of My Life in manuscript,which depicts the long and colorful life of his early age.Compared with the published biographies,manuscript is more credible,and it is more authoritative to be used to research a person.At present,no primary materials about Legge's first half of life were translated and published,so it is very meaningful to translate this manuscript.In the aspect of analyzing and solving the problems.Firstly,this report introduces the process of sorting out and translating the materials of this manuscript.Then the problems encountered in the translation process are divided into four parts,including vocabulary,quotation,style and dialect.This report points out the problems with the current data based on the translated text.This report gives a detailed analysis of the final translation from the perspective of language and culture.In contrast to the previous translation,a more complete and well-founded version was put forward.This report points out the problems of misinterpretation and misreading in the translation or discourse of predecessors,and the reason is that the Chinese researchers or translators lack the original materials or are not in-depth reading.On this basis,this report puts forward the academic value and practical significance of this translation and its research report.This translation material can help people who do not have access to the raw material or who have difficulty in reading the raw material to understand the story of legge and his life era as well as background.On the other hand,it can make up for the fact that only the rest of legge's life is recorded on the market today,and readers can also learn from this manuscript the ways of doing research and translation.
