Yan Fu is a famous enlightenment thinker, educator and translator in modern China. In the past 100 years, the academic circles have criticized Yan Fu's evaluations in his later years. He has criticized various opinions, especially on Yan Fu's participation in Yuan Shikai's restoration and his negation of the May Fourth New Culture Movement in his later years. However,it is not difficult to find the origin of Yan Fu's works after a thorough and thorough investigation. In summary,Yan Fu's association with Yuan Shikai and his subsequent ranking as a "Chou an hui”showed an embarrassing attitude towards Yuan Shikai's emperor's emperor's attitude. This is consistent with Yan Fu's political ideal of pursuing a constitutional monarchy throughout his life.It can be said that Yan Fu's support of Yuan Shikai is a product of the combination of the contradiction of the times(interweaving old and new times)and Yuan Shikai's complex character(both new and old).Look at the relationship between Yan Fu and the May 4th New Culture Movement.Although the two have obvious contradictions, they are more internally consistent.Freedom, democracy, and science are the common pursuits of both parties and are used as the cornerstone for the establishment of a future social system. It can be said that the“democracy”and“science”exposed by the May Fourth New Culture Movement originated from Yan Fu's“freedom as a body and democracy as a basis"."The concept. The contradiction between Yan Fu's and the May Fourth New Culture Movement is mainly reflected in the attitude towards treating traditional Chinese culture, the way in which the country's future system is constructed, and methods, and there are no essential differences.
