Since the 1960s,along with the development of Humanistic Theory,affective factors in foreign language teaching have gained attention,among which anxiety is one of the most influential increasing ones.Studies on the students'anxiety of learning English have shown theoretical and practical values in language learning and teaching.This thesis attempts to provide some help for students to relieve their anxiety in learning English,and in order to improve the state of anxieties,the author tries to put forward some measures,which are supposed to be useful for the efficiency of foreign language learning.This thesis mainly investigates the overall state of the anxiety level of English learning in a Technical College of SR City,analyzes the relationship between the general variables and the individual differences,makes a comparison on the family background,gender and personality of different students,explores effective pedagogical methods of relieving anxieties in English learning,and finally puts forward some suggestions and measures for relieving students' anxieties.The thesis starts with a literature review on the recent researches on anxiety.Based on the Affective Filter Hypothesis and Humanistic Theory,the author carries out this study with several methods,including questionnaire,classroom observation,interview,comparative experiment.To be more specific,based on Horwitz' foreign language class anxiety scale,the questionnaires have been designed to investigate 70 students among the junior students of a Technical College in SR City.And a conclusion has been given through an analysis on a series of descriptive statistics by adopting SPSS software.Conclusion:firstly,there exists a generally higher degree of anxiety in English learning among the students of Non-English major students in Technical Colleges of SR city;secondly,the frequency of the students using English learning strategies in these schools are low;thirdly,the anxiety and English learning strategies are of obviously negative correlation.Enlightenment and suggestions:firstly,teachers should try to create a more relaxed and happy classroom atmosphere,find a way to incorporate more student-centered learning techniques while giving lessons,and create a language learning environment close to the real life for students in English class;secondly,teachers should select appropriate evaluation strategies,and pay attention to the boundaries of error correction;thirdly,teachers should pay attention to the quantity and the difficulty of the teaching materials,which are supposed to have taken both knowledge and fun into account;lastly,teachers should strengthen the training on the students' English learning strategies,and show great concern on the relationship between English learning anxieties and the English learning strategies.
