The Relationship Between Childhood Adversity,Dark Triad And Leukocyte Level

Objective:The major objective of this work was thus to explore the impact of harsh and unpredictable childhood environments on an individual's life-history strategies and personality,we further hypothesized that this impact would be reflected in health outcomes,such as indicators of bacterial infection in blood routine.Methods:The Dirty Dozen,The Mini-K,The Environmental Conditions Scale and The Meaning in Life Questionnaire was completed by n=320 participants,while health-related outcomes were taken from Zhengzhou University Hospital of Psychiatry.The main statistical methods used include t test,Pearson correlation analysis,Fisher Z test,stratified regression analysis,mediation effect test and process test.Result:(1)In the results of gender difference test,the scores of men in Machiavellianism,psychopathy and narcissism were significantly higher than those of women(p<0.05),indicating that men were more likely to form dark triad personality traits than women.The mean scores of life history strategy(p<0.01)were significantly lower for men than for women,which indicated that women were more inclined to adopt slow life history strategy than men.(2)The different levels of dark triad may have difference on their childhood environments.Machiavellianism,psychopathy and narcissism are closely related to harsh and unpredictable childhood environments,which indicates that individuals growing up in harsh and unpredictable childhood environments are more likely prone to adopt dark triad personality.(3)In general,life history strategies are significantly negative correlation with psychopathy and Machiavellianism,no statistical significance associated with narcissism,there is no statistical significance between life history strategy and narcissism.At the same time,there is also no statistical significance between the history of strategy and harsh and unpredictable childhood environment related to narcissism,which indicated that the narcissism is more"light"in the Dark Triad;(4)There was a significant negative correlation between the life history strategy and the Dark Triad(r=-0.195,P<0.01).The personality traits of the dark triad were proved to be lack of self-control,anti-sociality,self-interest orientation and short-term mate selection tendency,which indicated that the Dark Triad was correlated with the fast life history strategy;(5)The life history strategy was also significantly negatively correlated with the harsh early childhood environment(r=-0.224,P<0.01)and unpredictability environment(r=-0.254,P<0.01),which indicated that the adverse environment in childhood might influence the life history strategy in adult life;(6)Part of the individual from poor resource also formed a positive and healthy psychological quality,so the study assumes that the meaning of life and life history strategy significantly positive correlation(r=0.383,P<0.01),the meaning of life are moderated in the unpredictable childhood environment and history life strategy.(B=0.16,t=3.48,P<0.001);(7)In the study 3,we found that lymphocytes(r=0.192,p<0.05),monocytes(r=0.173,p<0.01),white blood cells(r=0.143,p<0.05)were significantly positively correlated with the Dark Triad,which indicated that the three dimensions of the Dark Triad were associated with inflammation;(8)Dark Triad play mediate role between life history strategies and blood routine indicators(white blood cells,monocytes and lymphocytes).The model is fitted well(?~2/df=1.33,TLI=0.957,CFI=0.982,RMSEA=0.038).Conclusion:(1)Men had faster life-history strategies and higher scores on the Dark Triad than women,and female on narcissism was more strongly associated with harsh and unpredictable early childhood environment than men.(2)From the perspective of mental health,Dark Triad personality traits may be the product of adaptation to environmental conditions and the response to predetermined information to face unpredictable and harsh living environments.Compared with the other two dark personality traits,narcissism is more socially adaptive.From another perspective,result shows that the role of environment and personality is interactive.Social environment can influence the development of individual personality,and in turn,personality can influence the individual's choice and social environment.(3)The sense of meaning of life can bring psychological support to individuals in adverse environment,which explains why individuals who grow up in a resource-deficient environment also adapt positive and healthy mental qualities.It shows that the sense of meaning of life plays a very important role in promoting the development and formation of individuals.It can be advocated that parents and schools should pay attention to the cultivation of the sense of meaning of life of students.The sense of meaning of life can be enhanced the individual's psychological quality and buffer the adverse living environment.(4)The harder and more unpredictable the early childhood environment,the more likely individuals may face poor health outcomes.This proves that Dark Triad personality traits may cause changes in human physiological and immune functions to some extent.
