With the increasing international popularization of China,overseas Mandarin Chinese learners are also growing.They are eager to use it and communicate with Chinese people,but most of them have the "Hard start" problem,which is the principal goal of this research.Through two years of teaching practice,the author analyzes the causes of the main problem,along with the theory of TPR teaching method to propose some measures to solve it,and further explores about how to better apply the TPR method in the teaching of elementary Chinese for Chile.The Total Physical Response(TPR)is a teaching method propose by Asher,a professor of psychology at California State university in the 1960s,which combines language and behavior,mainly through body movements,physical objects,etc.,To teach a second language,with strong interactivity.It is widely used in the teaching of English as a second language in China and has had great results.By the replies of questionnaires and individual interviews,this thesis investigates and analyzes the application of TPR in elementary Chinese teaching in Chile.And explore the effect and feasibility of the TPR in elementary Chinese teaching in Chile.Trough the comparation of two classes,the thesis puts forward some reasonable suggestions for the teaching of elementary Chinese in Chile.The thesis consists of four chapters:The first chapter introduces the origin,purpose,significance,and status quo of the research,also expounds the research methods and theoretical basis,and introduces the investigation ideas.The second chapter analyses the feasibility of the TPR method in the elementary Chinese teaching.Based on the results of questionnaires and individual interviews,and an analysis of the corresponding measures and countermeasure to be taken.The third chapter show the investigation in the application of TPR method for elementary Chinese teaching in Chile.Including an introduction of the situation of Confucius institute in Santiago headquarters,Chile,including teachers,teaching resources,hardware resources,class planning and class schedule.Also,the detailed analysis of the two oral classes(one dictated with TPR and the other without it)in the institute,through the basic HSKK simulation test and questionnaire survey,the consequences of using TPR in class and feedback from students.Then with the use of SPSS 22.0 software to analyze the results of the experiment and conclude that the TPR can achieve good teaching results.Also,students and co-workers are happy to accept the method to satisfy their needs in oral classes.The fourth chapter summarizes the perspectives and conclusions,analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of TPR in oral classes,and proposes the direction and vision for future effort.
