In the entrance examination to senior high schools,reading comprehension takes one-third of the total grades.So improving junior high school students' reading ability has become the most urgent task in English teaching.However,in most of English reading classes,the teachers only use receptive learning to teach English reading,like translating and analyzing the texts sentence by sentence.As a result,the students are inclined to lose their interest in English reading because of boring explanation.So Inquiry-based Teaching will change the limitation of passive and receptive learning,and in the relaxing atmosphere,students can explore together,learn together and make progress together.Two research questions are solved in this study(1)What are the effects of Inquiry-based Teaching on students' English Reading in Junior High School?(2)What are the effects of Inquiry-based Teaching on students' learning to English reading in Junior High School?In order to solve the above two research questions,it spent nearly three months for researchers to carry out this experiment.The subjects are 94 junior high school students from a Shenyang middle school,and there are 47 students from Class 3,Grade 8 and 47 students from Class 4,Grade 8.Moreover,Class 3 is chosen as the control class,the original teaching method is adopted,and Class 4 is chosen as the experimental class,which uses the Inquiry-based Teaching method.And several instruments such as pre-test,post-test,questionnaires and interview are adopted in this thesis.Based on the theory of Inquiry-based Teaching,this thesis pays more attention to investigate the application of 5E models in the English reading and the effects of Inquiry-based Teaching.Students' scores of pre-test and post-test are collected and analyzed by SPSS 22.0.The study shows that students' interest and enthusiasm for learning can be cultivated by adopting Inquiry-based Teaching,and students can actively participate in the class,which shows positive interaction between students and teachers,students and students.More importantly,the application of Inquiry-based Teaching can improve students' initiative learning ability effectively,and gradually cultivate and train students' inquiry thinking and innovative spirit.
