Research On The Relationship Among Security,Values And Prosocial Behavior Of College Students

Values play an important role in people's psychology and behavior,and their impact can be said to be comprehensive and profound.Materialistic values refer to a personal value that emphasizes the importance of material wealth.Individuals with materialistic values tend to occupy more material wealth and use it as the focus of life,the criteria for successful evaluation and the source of happiness.Studies have shown that materialism can have many adverse effects,such as lower happiness and less prosocial behavior,but in the short term materialism may also play a positive role as a means of compensating for the lack of security.Since it was put forward,the socialist core values have been widely popular in the society and become the value criterion of more and more people.College students stage is a critical period of personal growth,but also a key period of the formation of values.Therefore,this study explores the relationship between college students' security,values and prosocial behavior through investigation and experimental research.Study one is investigative research,A questionnaire survey was conducted on the students of Hebei Normal University and those in other regions of the country by using the “Security Questionnaire” compiled by Cong Zhong and An Lijuan,Richins and Dawson's “Materialist Values Scale” and Li Jing's revised Chinese version,The “Prosocial Behavior Scale” of Carlo compilation and Kou Yu revision.A total of 413 valid data were collected,data were stored and processed using statistical software SPSS22.0,and statistical methods such as descriptive statistics,independent sample t test,correlation analysis and Mediating effect analysis were used to analyze the data.The results showed that:(1)There was a significant negative correlation between college students' security and materialism.(2)There was a significant negative correlation between the college students' security and prosocial behavior's emotional and altruistic dimensions.(3)There was a significant positive correlation between the college students' materialism and prosocial behavior's emotional,altruistic and open dimensions,but there was a significant negative correlation with the compliance and anonymity dimension of prosocial behavior.(4)College students' materialism exerts a partial mediating effect between the security and the emotional and altruistic dimensions of prosocial behavior.Study two is experimental research,The aim is to validate the laboratory activation effect of values.In this study,two experimental groups and one control group were set up by using the between-subjects experimental design.The experimental materials of the experimental group are an e-commerce platform advertisement,“Global GDP Data Dynamic Ranking”(1960-2017)and “Great My Country”,The control group used to watch the Sahara Desert landscape video as a blank treatment.The materialistic values scale used in this study is the same as the study one,In addition,the “College Students' Socialist Core Values Scale”,compiled by Deng Mingzhi,is used as a measuring tool for the socialist core values.The results of the study verify the laboratory activation effect of materialistic values and socialist core values.Study three is experimental research,to examine the influence of college students' security and values on prosocial behavior.The experimental materials used in this study are the same as those in the study two.The experimental paradigm of ultimatum game was used to examine the prosocial behavior of subjects in the experiment.The results show that:(1)In the ultimatum game,when the subjects are the proponents,the prosocial behavior of security has a significant impact,but when they are the respondents,the impact is not significant.(2)In the ultimatum game,value activation has a significant effect on the prosocial behavior.Under the activation of socialist core values,individuals show a higher level of prosocial behavior,while under the activation of materialistic values,individuals show a lower level of prosocial behavior.(3)Socialist core values can be used as a good mechanism to compensate for the lack of individual security.
