With the continuous advancement of curriculum reform in compulsory education in China,English curriculum,as the main course for students at this stage,has also attracted more and more attention.English teaching materials,as the main source for students to acquire English knowledge in class and the main basis for teachers to teach,are can be seen as the important carriers to ensure the effective implementation of English curriculum.Therefore,it is necessary to evaluate English teaching materials timely and scientifically.The object of this study is the latest edition English teaching materials Go for it for junior high school published by People's Education Press(Teaching materials for Grade 7: the 2012 version,which were approved by the ministry of education.Teaching materials for Grade 8 and Grade 9: the 2013 version,which were approved by the ministry of education.)which is revised on the basis of the 2011 edition Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard and the 2003 edition English teaching materials Go for it.Since junior middle schools in Harbin,Heilongjiang Province used this set of teaching materials in 2016,by the end of 2018,most of junior middle schools' students and teachers in different regions have just completed use the whole sets of teaching materials Go for it.The author believes that it's positive to evaluate them timely and comprehensively.The author will use the literature research method,questionnaire method and interview method,adopt the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard as the evaluation standard,use internal and external evaluation to evaluate the English teaching materials Go for it from the five dimensions: language skills,language knowledge,emotional attitudes,learning strategies and cultural awareness.The purpose of this study is to examine the following three questions: 1.Does the English teaching materials Go for it conform to the New Curriculum Standard? 2.Does the English teaching materials Go for it meet students' learning needs? 3.Does the English teaching materials Go for it meet the needs of teachers?The biggest difference between this study and previous studies is that: in the external evaluation,the author selected some students and teachers from two middle schools with different levels located in different jurisdictions in Harbin to investigate the overall using condition of the English teaching materials Go for it.In addition,the author also compare,analyze and discuss the findings from two schools to investigate more carefully whether the textbook meet the students' learning needs,the teachers' teaching needs of junior high school with different levels.It is also the innovation of this paper.Through the research,the author finds that the English teaching materials Go for it basically meets the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard in five dimensions.It highlights the basic concept of the New Curriculum Standard and pays special attention to cultivate students' ability of using language.In addition,according to the actual using condition of the English teaching materials Go for it,it can also meet the learning and teaching needs of most junior middle school at different levels.The highlights of this set of teaching material are as follows.Firstly,this set of teaching materials are beautifully designed.The illustrations are colorful and vivid.Secondly,each unit has one topic as the main line,runs through the unit all the time.And it is close to students' actual life.Thirdly,the oral tasks and its form in this set of teaching materials are very rich.And the oral tasks have strong purpose.It pays more attention to cultivate students' ability to communicate by using language.Finally,the design of part of contents pays more attention to let students discover the rules of English language by giving examples and then summarize the rules dependently.But at the same time,the author also found that there are some minor problems in this set of teaching materials.Firstly,the number of words is large.There are many words besides the New Curriculum Standard.Secondly,the difficulty of this set of teaching material increases greatly.Some students with weak foundation may not adapt it for a while.Finally,the supplementary materials of this set of teaching materials are not inadequate.Therefore,the English teaching materials Go for it needs to be constantly improved in these aspects.
