Under the educational environment of “one outline and many textbooks”,there are many textbooks appearing in the market.Therefore,teachers face the confusion of choosing a good textbook.Even if they have made a choice,it's a big problem to know the textbook's merits and demerits.Meanwhile,a full understanding of the textbooks is conducive to better teaching for teachers and better learning for students.Thus,this thesis mainly makes textbook evaluation for the revised Go for it(GFI),for it has been used by most middle school students and teachers for nearly 6 years in many parts of China,by means of text analysis and questionnaires,under the guidance of the New English Curriculum Standard(NECS).And this thesis mainly answers three questions:1)To what extent does GFI meet the requirements of the NECS(Level 3)?2)To what extent does GFI meet the needs of teachers and students in-use?3)What are the strengths and weaknesses of GFI?Through the study,it is found that the textbook is based on the new curriculum standards and reflects a certain view of language,teaching and learning.It mainly adopts Communicative Language Teaching method and Task-based Language Teaching,and insists on a combination of topic-based approach and structural-functional approach to arrange teaching contents scientifically and reasonably.The textbook fully embodies the ideas of the editor,to a large extent,meets the requirements of the new curriculum standards,and generally suits the needs of teachers and students.However,the teaching materials are short of phonetic knowledge,large vocabulary,more contents,less auxiliary materials,and some topics in GFI have nothing to do with students' daily life.To be worst,the proportion of Chinese and western culture is unbalanced.According to the strengths and weaknesses of the textbook,it is hoped that teachers adjust the teaching materials according to the actual situation of students,play the role of the textbooks to the maximum.Meanwhile,the compilers can modify teaching materials constantly to be better,so that textbooks can be used to foster the development of students' overall abilities.
