Nowadays,the traditional teaching methods of "duck-filling" and "sea-question tactics" have been used in English reading teaching in senior high school.Teachers focus on the explanation of vocabulary and grammar.The explanation of English reading materials is only on the surface.English class is dull and dull,which leads to students' lack of initiative in English reading class and their interest is gradually declining.Students have no desire to learn new knowledge,resulting in students' English reading performance can not be improved.Therefore,these are the next problems that we should solve in our senior high school English reading class.Professor Keller of the University of Florida proposed ARCS motivation model theory,which mobilized students' learning motivation through four aspects of teaching design: Attention,Relevance,Confidence,Satisfaction.This paper takes a class of sophomores in a senior high school in Harbin as an example to conduct a survey.On the basis of understanding the current situation of senior high school students' English reading learning motivation,this paper studies and designs senior high school English reading classes.Teachers try their best to create a highly motivated learning situation for students through various methods,so that students can grasp the initiative of the classroom through self-exploration and so on,so as to achieve this goal.The purpose of improving students' interest in learning and stimulating their learning motivation.Based on this,this paper mainly discusses the following questions.First,what is the current situation of senior high school students' motivation for English reading learning? Secondly,how to apply ARCS motivation model to senior high school English reading class? Thirdly,does ARCS motivation model have an impact on senior high school students' English reading motivation,and in what aspects?Based on the ARCS motivation model,this study takes the five compulsory senior high school English courses published by the Foreign Research Society as an example,designs four strategies of the ARCS motivation model and applies them to the classroom teaching cases of senior high school English reading to guide the teaching of reading section.Through literature analysis,questionnaires,interviews and classroom observation,this paper studies whether ARCS motivation model has a positive impact on students' English reading motivation,thus improving students' interest in English reading learning and stimulating students' English reading motivation.The results show that: Firstly,the present situation of English reading motivation of senior high school students is not ideal.The students think that the English reading class in senior high school is dull and boring.The students' learning autonomy is not strong.The time spent on English reading study is very little and the general interest in learning English is not high,and the students' English reading motivation is not high.Secondly,this paper designs the strategies of ARCS motivation model and applies it to senior high school English classroom.It records the students' situation through classroom observation and interviews.The results show that ARCS motivation model has successfully attracted students' attention,and students' subjectivity has been brought into play,thus achieving the goal of effective teaching.Thirdly,the ARCS motivation model has an impact on the motivation of high school students in English reading,which stimulates their interest,self-confidence,satisfaction,attention and mentality.Therefore,teachers have successfully stimulated and maintained students' learning motivation by designing ARCS motivation strategies in senior high school English classroom teaching.ARCS motivation model also promotes the development of English reading teaching,improves some problems existing in the traditional English reading classroom teaching,and provides some new ideas and research directions for English reading teaching in senior high schools in the future.However,there are also some deficiencies in the details of this study,such as too few research samples,students need to adapt to the new teaching model,and so on.Finally,this study summarizes the enlightenment,points out the limitations and puts forward the prospect of applying ARCS motivation model in senior high school English reading classroom teaching.
