With the development of China's economic and the improvement of international status, Chinese as an important communication media has increasingly highlighted its important position. The Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language has made great achievements. However, there are still some problems during the oral Chinese teaching. Such as the attention of students is not so concentrated,and some students are not active. Part of them ignore the importance of oral Chinese and lack of confidence when they speak Chinese. One of the reasons is that teachers do not know the situation of students' motivation well and ignore the importance of learning motivation.The ARCS Motivation Model proposed by Professor Keller aims to stimulate and strengthen students' learning motivation from four aspects (attention, relevance ,confidence and satisfaction), and has achieved important results in experimental research both at home and abroad. This paper introduces the ARCS Motivation Model,and explores whether the model is suitable for intermediate oral Chinese as a foreign language teaching, The article is divided into the following parts:The introduction part includes the background, purposes, methods of the research and its research findings in both theory and practice.The first part mainly introduces the related concepts of motivation, the elements and procedures of ARCS Motivation Model.The second part analyzes the feasibility of applying ARCS Motivation Model to the teaching from three aspects: teaching object, teaching content and teaching condition. Through classroom observation and questionnaire to analyses the students'motivation situation and points out the necessity of stimulating motivation. It is found that the ARCS Motivation Model can be combined well with the teaching process based on the analysis of the content of intermediate oral Chinese as a foreign language teaching. Teachers with rich professional knowledge and teaching experience and modern teaching equipments provide the necessary conditions for the implementation of motivation strategies.The third part selects and designs the corresponding motivation strategies that can be used in the teaching of intermediate oral Chinese as a foreign language based on the analysis of the students and analyses the effect of the strategies after the implementation.The last part is conclusion, including the limitation of this paper and the direction of further study.Based on the study of motivation theories and the findings of classroom observation, the author explores the problems existing in oral Chinese teaching and lists some motivation strategies according to the ARCS Motivation Model. It is hoped that this thesis will help teachers improve oral Chinese teaching and enhance students'motivation for Chinese learning.
