Chinese learning motivation affects the persistence and effectiveness of Chinese learning,and there is an inseparable relationship between the motivation and maintenance of learning motivation and the international communication of Chinese.The investigation of students' learning motivation can reflect both the learning activities of learners and the teaching of teachers.The study found that the learning motivation of learners at the Confucius Institute at the Oriental University of Naples,Italy,was relatively passive.In order to stimulate and maintain the learning motivation of the learners,this article uses the "ARCS Motivation Model" proposed by Professor John M.Keller in 1983 as the theoretical support and Incorporate into the teaching design and explore the effect of the theory on teaching Chinese as a foreign language in an empirical way,in order to fill the gap of the model applied to Chinese teaching in nontarget language environments.This article takes Chinese learners from the Confucius Institute at the Oriental University of Naples,Italy as research objects,and surveys their learning motivation types,learning motivation intensity,preference for ARCS four motivations,and satisfaction with learning through questionnaires,and uses Excel and IBM SPSS Statistics 22 statistical software for analysis.According to the analysis results combined with the strategies of the ARCS motivation model to optimize the teaching design,explore the feasibility of applying the theory to Chinese teaching in non-target language environments,so as to inspire teaching and make corresponding suggestions for the development of the Confucius Institute and teachers' teaching.The research in this paper finds that combining the "ARCS Motivation Model" theory with teaching does have a certain effect on stimulating and maintaining students' learning motivation.In addition,in the course of the research,this article also explores the problems existing in the learning process of Chinese learners in non-target language environment,and puts forward some specific teaching suggestions in order to help Chinese teaching in the future.
