The Inheritance Of The Miao People's Badai Ritual Under The Vision Of"National Present"

This paper is a case study of Badai Ritual of Damenshan Village,Shanjiang Town,Fenghuang County,Xiangxi,Hunan Province.In this paper,the theory of “State Presence” is used to explore the changing course and motivation of the Miao people's Badai Ritual in the context of the continuous deepening of national power in the traditional community."Badai" is a transliteration of Miao.As the priest in the eastern dialect area of Miao Ethnic Minority,Badai is the host of various rituals of their folk beliefs.Badai Ritual is a carrier of the history and religious beliefs of Miao people,and an important part of their traditional culture and folk religious beliefs as well.In the course of historical development,Badai Ritual has played an important role in promoting the cohesion within the people of Miao Minority.The change of Badai Ritual includes three stages.The first stage was the period before 1950 s,when state power had little intervention and influence on the Miao area,and the Badai Ritual was in a state of free development.The second stage was from the 1950 s to the 1970 s.In this period the state power was strongly involved in the social life of the people in the Miao area,and the development of Badai Ritual was severely suppressed.The third stage is the time after 1980 s.During this period,with the reform and opening up of the country and the inclusive cultural attitude,Badai Ritual got the chance to recovery and develop.With the development of intangible cultural heritage protection in China,the ceremonies organized by the Badai are becoming more frequent,and the context of Badai ritual inheritance is closely related to factors such as national policies and power.
