Iris Murdoch is one of the representatives of 20th century British literary. She has remarkable achievements not only in novel writing, but also in philosophical studies. Therefore, the study of Murdoch's novels is always related to her philosophical thoughts.Murdoch holds an idea that a good literary work needs to reflect the reality of the society and people. The Unicorn is a novel to reflect the self in human nature. In the face of others or things,he will surmise and speculate subjectively at first,so as to construct his own fantasy. The Unicorn is one of Murdoch' s early works.Compared to her other works, the research of The Unicorn is seldom studied. The reason is that The Unicorn is created before the mature period of Murdoch's creative writing. So there is little storytelling and more about reasoning. Thus,it obtains mixed reviews. The current research is limited to the analysis of philosophical themes, and ignore the novel's special narrative techniques. Thus, based on the theory of narratology, this thesis is to analyze the narrative features and to analyze how the figures create and break the fantasy through narrative features.Through a systematic study of narrative person, narrative time, narrative language and their function, this thesis gets a conclusion that shows how The Unicorn reflects the fantasy under the self through narrative methods.
