With the continuous improvement of science and technology's status, the significance of scientific popularization becomes more and more prominent. How to improve the translation works'quality of general scientific texts has become an important research project faced by all translators. In the impression of most people, the stylistic features of scientific texts are always serious and rigid and have no features of literature and art or sense of beauty. But there is a question:Should the style of general scientific texts which aims at spreading the knowledge and theories of science be the same as the style of the traditional scientific texts? The answer is definitely not.Based on Reader's Response Theory of Nida, this thesis analyzes the expression of visual beauty and poetic imagery beauty in the E-C translation process of general scientific texts from the perspective of rhetorical devices application through a case study of the translation of general scientific texts about science and psychology(this series books is a part of a collection called Liberal Education and Bilingual Library published by FLTRP).This thesis discusses the impacts on the translation effects caused by the related rhetorical devices with the guidance of Reader's Horizon of Expectations and Literary Blankness which belong to the issue of literature theories and also explores the enlightenment for translators of how to choose the translation strategy about rhetorical devices brought by Reader's Response Theory. The discovery of the research:there is a close connection between the application of rhetorical devices and the reader's reading experience. The conclusion of the research:the application of rhetorical devices under the guidance of Reader's Response Theory can affect the translation effects of these texts in a positive way.Visual beauty and poetic imagery beauty can be created by the proper application of rhetorical devices. These two kinds of beauties can give the readers better reading experience and more intensive comprehension.A deeper impression of the texts'contents will be left on the readers because of the feedback effects. In this way,the translation of the texts can finish their task and make better popularization and spread of the scientific knowledge.Based on this conclusion, translators should pay attention to the application of rhetorical devices and the reader's cultural inclination and language habits, attach importance to the build of sense of tableau and sense of immersion during the E-C translation process of general scientific texts. Therefore, translators could endow the translation with proper charm of literature and make the translation get a better effect. The writer hopes the conclusion of the research could provide some references for translators in their E-C translation works of general scientific texts.
