Selected from American associate professor of Politics Dr.Dorle Hellmuth's monograph Counterterrorism and the State:Western Responses to 9/11,the translated chapter Case Study I: The United States in the practice program possesses high research value in counterterrorism policy making and analysis,and provides abundant samples for translation study in social science text as well.On one hand,in chronological order the chapter goes through the United States' modifications in counterterrorism policy as well as reforms inside the national security system with a special focus on the negotiation between the administration branch and the legislation one.On the other hand,the chapter,with extensive volume of terms,complex sentence structures and cultural defaults,proves to be a typical social science text.At the beginning,this thesis throws light on the research significance and status,and from the macro-perspective it introduces the program source and the general content.Then,based on the characteristics of social science text,the thesis expands discussion emphasizing the process of glossary establishment,professional expression verification and idiom revivification as well as the solution map of complex sentence structure through comparisons,diagrams and examples.The thesis devotes to constructing methods towards social science translation,which brings the enhancement to my translation ability in the aforementioned text type and offers reference to researchists in related domains.
