In the era of knowledge economy,the emergence of global villages has exceeded the space-time limit,making the transmission of information more convenient than ever.With the rapid renewal of ideology and the blurry of interdisciplinary boundaries,the translation practice and research of informative texts are becoming increasingly important.This practice report is based on the author's translation of Chapter 3 and 4 of Articulate While Black,a social science work that covers researches in the field of race and linguistics.Under the guidance of text typology theory,the author classifies the translated materials as informative text,which pursue the authenticity and accuracy of information.The report expounds the translation methods and skills of informative texts from the lexical,syntactic and cultural levels.To begin with,the report gives a brief introduction to the translated materials.Next,matters needing attention in the translation procedures are put forward,including the analysis of reader groups,the reserve of background knowledge,the method of translation revision as well as the usage of translation tools.Then,in the case of analysis with Articulate While Black,some common methods for the translation of informative text,such as amplification,conversion,division,linear translation,inversion,the change of the voice,literal translation with notes,adaptation and free translation,are introduced.At last,the author summarizes this translation experience from the aspects of translator's competence and professionalism and points out the limitations and shortcomings of this report,with a view to promoting the translation practice and research of informative texts.
