The teaching of English listening and speaking,as important basics of English teaching in primary school,plays a significant role in cultivating students' comprehensive ability of using the language and skills.With the development of internet technology,an innovative teaching method,micro-lecture,has come into being in the educational field.The official English Curriculum Standard,which encourages teachers to apply to various information technologies and teaching resources for promoting English teaching and improving students' learning efficiency.Micro-lecture,as a new teaching method,adds to what the traditional teaching model can do,in the hope of supporting students to develop their listening and speaking skills and enriching their ways of learning the English language.This paper,based on literature research,is an attempt to summarize and sort out the theoretical basis of micro-lecture application.As regards the present situation and existing problems of English listening and speaking teaching in primary schools in rural areas in Shanghai,the application of micro-lectures in Shanghai rural areas seems worth studying.This paper is divided into six chapters: the first one discusses the background and practical significance of this research.The second one refers to literature review,in which the concepts of micro-lecture and listening and speaking teaching are defined.In addition,relevant research related to the application of micro-lecture as a way of language teaching at home and abroad has been settled and analyzed.In the meanwhile,this paper briefly presented the author's understanding of ideas from constructivism,language input hypothesis,and information processing theory.In addition,it discusses the guiding significance of the theories for micro-lecture application to teaching English listening and speaking in primary schools.Through interviews,this paper describes the current situation and problems of English listening and speaking teaching in rural areas in Shanghai.Hence,it makes it clear that,due to the lack of learning resources and parental educational support,students in rural areas of Shanghai can hardly get effective guidance and training in English listening and speaking,and that students' attitude and interest in this regard cannot be effectively maintained.All this gives rise to unsatisfactory students' performance in their English listening and speaking ability.In the meantime,this paper analyzes the advantages of micro-lecture application inTeaching listening and speaking.In the fourth chapter,it discusses the design,production and implementation of micro-lectures.Additionally,the writer summarizes the key points of micro-lecture design,according to the evaluation criteria of popular micro-lecture websites of current micro-lectures application in China.Moreover,this chapter introduces the general micro-lecture design methods and examples.The fifth chapter is devoted to the design and implementation of an experiment,in which the process of experimenting the implementation of micro-lecture are introduced in detail followed by a case analysis.Besides,the experiment results are analyzed and summarized.The six chapter consists of a conclusion and some suggestion.Conclusions are drawn according to students' listening and speaking proficiency tests,student questionnaires and teacher interviews as part of the experiment.In addition,it also points out the shortcomings of this research effort and attempts to suggest the prospects of micro-lectures application.As is discovered in this empirical research: by comparing the datum drawn respectively from the performance of the experimental class and the control class respectively,the application of micro-lectures in teaching English listening and speaking in rural primary schools in Shanghai has obvious advantages:(1)students can watch the micro-lectures at any time and put it into practice repeatedly,which plays a positive role in the development of English listening and speaking ability.(2)since micro-lectures are diverse in forms with rich content,the application of them in English listening and speaking teaching may,to a large extent,enhance students' interests and attitude towards English listening and speaking.(3)micro-lectures,applied in teaching English listening and speaking,may also help reduce teachers' burden of having to repeat the same explanation and practice and thus may help improve teachers' efficiency of teaching.
