The appearance of complex images in the history of Chinese graphic art can be traced back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties,and even in the neolithic culture before the Xia,such as the famous colored pottery basin with human face and fish pattern found in banpo cultural site,and the jade carvings with weird and changeable dragon images in longshan culture.The schemata and modeling of compound images almost come into being with the initial creation consciousness of human beings.This paper focuses on all kinds of modeling tools and ornamentation with complex images unearthed from tombs of typical Chu culture in the Dongzhou dynasty.Taking examplw with typical Chu town grave beast,tiger bridge bird frame drum,tiger birds,a brief combing its evolution,and analyzes the image of the three types of instruments,function,on this basis,meanwhile illustrate the other class with composite image consciousness unearthed cultural relic uneartheds from different tombs,combined with Chu in under the social background and historical periods of productivity development,ritual system,religion culture,wu si civilization and aesthetic characteristics of reflected through the unearthed relics and literature,tries to explain the causes of the composite image.
